The Lion King is the on-stage telling of the Disney classic tale. The interesting thing about this show is that everyone knows the storyline already, so the main goal of the show is to wow the crowd. Spoiler alert: You will be wowed!
The only word suitable to describe the show is “immersive.” When watching the show from the orchestra level, there is something to look at in every corner of not only the stage, but the audience and the box viewing areas. There are two percussionists that are placed in the box areas of the audience, and during specific moments of the show like the opening song, “The Circle of Life,” the actors come though the audience in animal costumes and surround the audience.
As much as this show is about Simba Mufasa, the iconic villain, Scar, steals the show. The actor of the night’s performance, Peter Hargrave, was so cunning and vicious throughout each scene, and his known song, “Be Prepared” was the crowd favorite. Even though he is the villain of the story, Hargrave has the loudest cheers from the audience at the curtain call.
If you are looking for a fun and immersive show with a high energy cast and creative team, then The Lion King on Broadway is the show for you. With the comedic team of Timon and Pumba, you’ll be laughing and singing along to “Hakuna Matata” the entire night long. And after seeing this show on Broadway once, you’ll want to see it again for sure.
The Lion King will end its run in Chicago on January 14th. If there is any chance tickets are still available, take a chance, and go see it. The show is an absolute ROAR!
